EQUINE LAMENESS

Lameness is any disturbance in the horses natural gait. A proper diagnosis of a noted lameness is best determined by your veterinarian's trained eye, with years of experience and expertise your veterinarian can rule out the cause of the lameness and initiate proper treatment. Radio-graphic & ultrasound diagnostic findings on a lameness that may need immediate immobilization and or surgery can be essential to a successful recovery. Typically the horses head and withers rise when the painful foreleg meets the ground; the horses head is lowered as the lame hind leg meets the ground. Treatments can range from extended stall rest & anti-inflammatory medications to shock-wave treatments for tendon injuries. Irap therapy for various inflammatory conditions has proven to be a valuable asset to the performance horse.
